Philip Watkins is a Cardiff based artist born in Church Village and studied at Newport College of Art. These latest pieces are examples of Philip’s experiments with different techniques and materials. He does a lot of ‘playing’ with materials in the studio and these few exhibits represent a departure from his normal exhibition work, though the subject matter is more or less the same. Different material or technique can refresh and produce a completely dissimilar feel plus the uncertainty of what the end result will look like. Most are everyday places, or places on the edge of things, where they are exactly does not matter in the end.
